The nature writer W.H. Hudson wrote an adage that appeals to me : Pet nothing and persecute nothing. I presume he was mainly referring to wild things, but it could apply to domestic pets. I have no understanding why humans would want to train and subjugate animals for their own gratification. There's no need nowadays to keep horses, or dogs and cats, except for egoistic enjoyment. But it's too late now to complain.
I have little tolerance for the persecution of wildlife, and hunting, shooting and fishing has no relevance to me now. I've been a vegetarian for most of my life and I can't fault that lifestyle.
God gave us dominion over animals. We now recognise we, Homo Sapiens, are animals too. Does that give us the right to eat each other? And who is this "God"? Why do we need an external controller that we must revere and call "Lord". Sounds like a mediaeval power hierarchy to me.
I dislike power in all it's manifestations. I'd like to think nobody is above or below me. We're made the same, we should all be equal. We have a big brain that should accommodate that notion.
